The Woody Foundation “Dog Days of Summer” pub crawl on June 22nd epitomized a Woody Foundation event. Fun times spent with great people thoroughly enjoying life! We started off the afternoon at Pao Town at 4 PM. I arrived a little late for the crawl. Going through the door, I saw over 20 people already on the crawl. I just couldn’t stop smiling. I was extremely excited to have so many good people out here. After having a beer at Pao Town, we all slowly made our way towards Tarpon Bend on Miracle Mile. This particular trek was the longest of the pub crawl. With the sun still beating down on us, it was definitely hot out there in the Miami Heat.
Tarpon Bend is an awesome bar in the heart of downtown Coral Gables. I always seem to love fishing themed bars. I especially liked their giant chalkboard of fishing world records and other cool fishing gear spread throughout the bar. The crawl was in full force with almost 30 strong! While having a few Blue Moons, I was talking to a group of three girls at the bar explaining the Woody Foundation especially the impact we make in the community. I tried to get them to join on the crawl with us. But, they were celebrating their friend’s bachelorette party. I started talking to another group of people not on the crawl including a rugby player from the UK. After spreading awareness to many people not involved in the crawl, the sun was setting. As it approached our 7:30 PM departure time, our numbers had dwindled slightly because some people had other commitments to attend. Yet, plenty of us were still going strong.
When we made it to Miller’s Alehouse, my family friend, Taylor, decided we should create a drink called “The Wood”. We concocted a beverage with Dr. Pepper, whiskey and spiced rum. My friend, Eddie, came up with a phrase about “The Wood”. He boldly proclaimed, “The Wood goes down hard”. It was hilarious! Anyways, I was a little tipsy after that drink and a different one that we had at the alehouse. Luckily, we ate some amazing fries loaded with toppings, which kept me going strong for the rest of the night. It was approaching 9 PM, our time to crawl to our last destination.
The Bar, which is its actual name, had a live band called Vamped. I enthusiastically rocked by myself in front of the band. Vamped was playing some great music, which I was having a fantastic time with. After talking with the lead singer, Alvero Madalyne, he gave a sweet shout out to the Woody Foundation dedicating their entire set to us. I was just loving it and thoroughly enjoying their music. I was up in front of the band rocking with some of my friends joining in. It was super fun and memorable!!! As the clock approached 11 PM, most of the pub crawl participants had headed home. The band was getting close to wrapping up on the stage. Taylor and I talked outside and relaxed for a little bit. After a long crawl, my friends and I went our separate ways after a fun-filled night.
