Howard has always had a passion for athletics and competition. With two older brothers and a younger sister, Howard had no shortage of competitive athletic endeavors in which to engage as a youth, from basketball in the driveway, to wiffleball and football in the yard to competitive eating at the breakfast table. Howard credits his brother Ken for fueling his competitive fire at a young age and for fostering it throughout their childhood. Now 33 years old and going grey, Howard has found that playing basketball at Flamingo Park, golfing with his family and running with his girlfriend Liliana can fill the void left by his competitive younger years. Howard’s inspiration for running the ING Marathon in 2013 came from an entirely difference source however.
Introduced to The Woody Foundation years ago, Howard was touched by the personal nature of the foundation and its approach to helping people who are truly in need. The Woody Foundation helps to raise money and awareness to benefit individuals afflicted with brain and spinal cord injuries, and serves to fund the rehabilitation centers in the greater Miami area for those individuals. The foundation began in the name of Woody Beckham, who as a 22 year old college student suffered a spinal cord injury while making a rugby tackle that rendered him paralyzed from the chest down. Howard explains “The Woody Foundation touched me in a personal way. Woody was a kid, just like any of us and could have been a son, friend, cousin or teammate of any of ours. His story inspired me to take action. I am running this marathon in the name of Woody and all the other individuals and their families out there afflicted by similar scenarios.” Howard believes in the power of a team and intends to activate his own team in the name of the Woody Foundation.
Howard currently owns and operates Howard Chase Real Estate, a luxury real estate brokerage in South Beach. His team oriented approach and dedication to the success of the realtors and clients of Howard Chase Real Estate mirrors that of his dedication to the training for the ING Marathon and his commitment to the Woody Foundation. Howard can be reached at 786-566-3505 with any questions or inquiries to get involved, and donations to The Woody Foundation can be made here.
Liliana’s warm nature and determined character define her. She has a special place in her heart for those in need. Growing up as one of 9 siblings in Cali, Colombia, Liliana has a deep appreciation for the freedoms and opportunities that living in America provides. As she frequently says “I love Miami Beach!” Liliana is a mother to her wonderful son Jhon and a daughter to a wonderful mother Beatriz. The Woody Foundation puts her life into perspective and allows Liliana to raise awareness for those individuals and their families who are just like hers; rich in love, tradition, gratitude and appreciation.
Liliana is dedicating this Marathon to The Woody Foundation and aims to train for and fight through the race with the same determination that Woody and other individuals like Woody train for and fight to improve their standard of living.
